The disk space included in all our web hosting packages can be shared, if necessary, under the primary domain (for example, 'yourdomain.com') for a subdomain (for example, 'sub.yourdomain.com'). This is particularly useful when you want to install a separate application (such as an online store) under the actual website or implement, for example, a development version of a production site (a so-called staging site), where updates can be tested safely in advance.
If you have multiple web hosting subscriptions with the same Plesk account, make sure before starting the installation that you have selected the primary domain under which the subdomain is to be created from the 'Subscription' dropdown menu in the upper right corner of the control panel. Then click 'Websites & Domains' -> 'Add Subdomain':
Next, define the desired subdomain name (e.g., 'sub'). The document root, i.e., the directory where the subdomain's website files are placed, is automatically determined in the format of your subdomain. However, you can also rename this to something else if desired. The directory is located alongside the primary httpdocs directory at the root of the web hosting's website space.
Finally press 'OK' and the control panel creates the subdomain page you selected.
After creation, you return to the Websites and Domains page, where the subdomain you created now appears as a separate manageable section, whose settings you can change in the same way as the main domain. By default, the subdomain can be accessed with the same FTP credentials as the main domain, but if desired, you can also create a separate FTP account that only allows access to the subdomain from 'FTP Access'.
Installing WordPress on a subdomain with
WordPress Toolkit also works the same way as on the main domain. You can also implement a
staging site on the subdomain you created if desired.
